According to the Border Police of Romania, the 11 migrants were arrested at the Nadlac II border checkpoint and the same revealed that the migrants who appeared to have entered Romania legally were hiding in a lorry, AtoZSerwisPlus.ro reports.
The authorities have further disclosed that the lorry driver said he was carrying three pallets of textiles to Italy, suggesting that the migrants were planning to reach Italy and then move to another European Union country.
Regarding the nationality of migrants who tried to cross the Schengen Area border illegally, the Romanian authorities said that five of them were nationals of Bangladesh, four of them were nationals of India, and two of them were nationals of Pakistan.
“In cooperation with the Timisoara border police, the Arad border police conducted a thorough check of the van discovering 11 people, all foreign citizens, hidden inside. It has been established that five of them are from Bangladesh, four from India and two from Pakistan, all appearing to have entered Romania legally, on different dates,” the statement of the Border Police reads.

Apart from sharing information on illegal migrants, the Romanian border police have also revealed the number of people crossing the border each day.
Data provided by the Romanian border police show that on January 17, 2023, the country registered around 126,400 people who crossed the border and went through the control formalities.
Of the total number of people who crossed the border on January 17, it has been stressed that around 56,880 people entered Romania, with the majority of them being nationals of Ukraine.
