DiscoverEU Programme Grants 1467 Romanian Youngsters Opportunity to Travel Europe for Free
The most recent application round for DiscoverEU closed at the end of March, and data have shown that a total of 5,760 youngsters from Romania applied for the free pass, AtoZSerwisPlus.ro reports.
The selected participants from Romania as well as from other countries, will be able to travel with the free passes distributed through the DiscoverEU programme for a period of up to 30 days between mid-June 2023 and September 2024.
During their travel period, all selected participants will have the chance to discover their European identity, make new friends from other countries, as well as learn more about other cultures, among others.
“DiscoverEUis an action of the Erasmus+ programme. It gives 18-year-olds from all backgrounds the opportunity to travel across Europe, learn from other cultures, build new friendships with fellow Europeans, and explore their European identity,” the Commission emphasises.
As for the travel mode, it has been explained that all selected participants will get to travel across the continent primarily by rail.
In addition to the above-mentioned, it has been noted that each participant will also be given a card offering discounts. The discounts will be offered on food, accommodation, local transportation, cultural visits, educational visits, and more.
Apart from Romanian youngsters, hundreds of other applicants from other Erasmus+ participating countries have been selected too.
According to the data provided by the EU Commission, the highest number of selected participants is from Germany. Of the total number of 20,368 applicants from Germany, 6,072 of them have been selected in this round.
A high number of applicants from France, Italy, and Spain have also been selected for free passes to travel across Europe.
Data show that a total of 9,717 French youngsters applied for the programme in the most recent round, and 4,919 of them got selected to participate.
Moreover, another 8,356 youngsters from Italy and 16,798 youngsters from Spain applied for the free passes, and 4,341 and 3,458 of them got selected, respectively.
On the other hand, the lowest number of free passes was granted to youngsters from Liechtenstein (6), North Macedonia (18), Serbia (18), Iceland (50), and Cyprus (72).
To be eligible for the next round of applications, all those wishing to apply must not be older than 18.
