Romanian Authorities Identify 563 Individuals with SIS Alerts Within a Single Week
Of the total, 418 persons subject to SIS alerts were detected in Romania following the additional exchange of information through the SIRENE Bureau of the International Police Cooperation Centre General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police AtoZSerwisPlus.ro reports.
The same source revealed that Romanian police officers implemented a total of 19 European arrest warrants and detected a total of 60 persons reported by the EU Member States as having refused entry or stay in the Schengen Area, 192 persons who were wanted to participate in a judicial procedure and ten persons who were reported missing by the partners in the Schengen Zone countries.
Besides, 36 documents were taken in Romania, and 38 vehicles sought by Schengen Zone partners were discovered, either to be confiscated or used as evidence in legal proceedings.
Of these, 19 were pursued by Romanian Police, based on European arrest warrants, 20 were reported by the Member States as having refused entry or stay in the Schengen Zone, eight people were wanted for participating in a judicial procedure, and eight were reported to disappear by Romanian authorities, according to the press release.
In addition, the foreign partners discovered on their territory 15 documents as well as two vehicles sought by the Romanian authorities, with a view to make them eligible or to be used as evidence in criminal proceedings.
The General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) previously reported that for a period between December 15 and December 21, a total of 858 people subject to SIS alerts were detected by authorities in Romania and partners in other countries.
In addition, IGPR also noted that during the same period, 63 vehicles and 27 documents were subject to SIS alerts. It noted that 647 people were located in Bucharest following the exchange of information through the SIRENE Bureau of the International Police Cooperation Center.
The Schengen Information System (SIS) is among the most significant databases in the European Union countries, consisting of over 40 million alerts related to people and objects, allowing relevant authorities to share and manage information related to missing or wanted persons and irregular entry attempts, among others.
