Russian Woman Arrested for Attempting to Cross Moldovan-Romanian Border With Forged Schengen Visa
“At the crossing point, Leuseni on the meaning of exit of the country presented a car of model Dacia, in which there were three persons. They were identified as being two citizens of the Republic of Moldova and a citizen of the Russian Federation,” a statement issued by the Moldovan government reads.
According to the same, a multiple-entry Schengen visa was sticked on one of the pages of the travel document. The visa sticker did not possess all the security elements, and for this reason, the border police submitted it for an additional verification with the existing equipment, AtoZSerwisPlus.ro reports.
The government then found that the visa was not issued by the French Embassy in Moscow and was instead forged.
“The false issue consisted of applying data from the previously obtained visa by the holder,” the statement also noted.
The authorities have initiated an investigation for forgery of documents, while the woman has been handed over to the Bureau for Migration and Asylum of the MIA. The investigation is being conducted by the Border Police investigation officers.
Cases of persons attempting to cross the Schengen Area borders with fake visas and fake passports are quite frequent. In February, Cyprus’s police officers arrested two people in connection with a case of forged travel documents.
A report published by In Cyprus has shown that the two persons were a 53-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both third-country nationals, who went to Larnaca airport in Cyprus to travel to a European country.
In addition, local Cypriot media reports indicated that during the passport control, it was discovered that the woman’s travel documents did not belong to her. She also confessed that the documents were given to her by the 53-year-old, who is her uncle.
At the same time, during the man’s confession, he indicated that the travel documents belonged to his daughter and that he had given them to the 20-year-old.
Whereas in January, police officers in Portugal also arrested two men after they tried to leave the island by presenting fake Portuguese passports.
Commenting on the situation, the police spokesman of Paphos added that a 29-year-old went to Paphos airport to board a flight to Marseille, France. The officer stated that he had presented a Portuguese passport, which did not have security data in it.
